Police Carry Out Operation to Tackle Overweight Vehicles Using CastleTown Roads

Cumbria police had an increased presence in the Castletown area of Penrith on Wednesday afternoon.

The police operation was carried out following concerns raised from a recent Street Safe engagement regarding over weight vehicles using Castletown Bridge. PCSO Powell and CBO PC Cook along with colleagues from Eden Eden Neighbourhood Policing team, Roads Policing and Special Constables attached to Eden Eden Neighbourhood Policing team have carried out a targeted operation aimed at addressing this issue.

During the operation several vehicles were stopped and enforcement action taken. This has included use of traffic offence reports and advice to drivers.

Castletown Bridge and Norfolk Road has a 7.5 tonne weight restriction except for access. Contravention of this could lead to a £50 fine.

A spokesperson for the Eden Eden Neighbourhood Policing team said “we will continue to tackle issues raised by the community.”

The Westmorland and Furness community safety partnership are also inviting residents in Castletown to get involved in a trial in the area called “LORRY WATCH" Rich Scoffham, Eden Local Focus Hub Manage has asked that any one interested in being involved in the Castletown area to email Eden Local Focus Hub at EdenHub@Cumbria.police.uk
