Brambles restaurant, once the social hub of the former Newton Rigg College, is set to reopen in Autumn 2026, marking an exciting new chapter for one of Penrith's most recognisable venues.
Following the closure of the college, the Newton Rigg Estate was acquired by Leo Group and A W Jenkinson. As part of their long-term commitment to the local community, Leo Group has begun transforming the historic campus into a thriving centre for innovation, education and opportunity.
For generations of local people, Newton Rigg was far more than a college. It played an important role in the community, bringing together students, families, businesses and visitors from across Cumbria and beyond. Brambles restaurant was at the heart of campus life.
Josie Savry, Head of Property for Leo Group, said:
"We are thrilled to reopen Brambles restaurant and deli. The reopening reflects our ambition to preserve the heritage, while creating a vibrant future for Newton Rigg."
The reopening of Brambles represents another significant milestone in the wider regeneration of the Newton Rigg Estate. Plans for the venue include a refreshed dining experience celebrating local produce, supporting regional suppliers and creating new employment opportunities for the area. Brambles restaurant will have a catering facility and will be available to book for private hire and large group functions. The restaurant will also house a deli serving both locally sourced produce and produce prepared in house. The deli will offer chef prepared products to be enjoyed at home.
The revival of Brambles is expected to be warmly welcomed by former students, staff and residents alike, reconnecting the community with a venue that holds a special place in Penrith's history. The restaurant is expected to open in Autumn 2026, with further details on opening dates, menus and bookings to be announced in the coming months.
