More disruption to train travel on what Network Rail have said is the busiest line in Europe, the Westcoast main line will be closed primarily between Scotland and Preston and between Milton Keynes and London Euston again this weekend.
The work is part of a multi million upgrade along the WestCoast mainline including track signalling and bridge replacement works.
Residents living near the line around Penrith have been notified of what is expected to be significantly noisy work including grinding of the tracks to remove surface metal.
Networkrail said “We work around the clock to keep the railway running smoothly for passengers and freight. Our work is often noisy, late at night, and on weekends. The nature of the tasks mean we can’t prevent all noise, but our teams will try to minimise this as much as possible. We are sorry if we disturb you.”
Avanti WestCoast will again be running trains on the Settle to Carlisle line as a diversion route between Preston and Carlisle.
A bus replacement service will be running from Penrith and Oxeholme during the closures.
